Webcam and mic test

Check everything before a client call, a demo or a webinar: the camera's real resolution and frame rate, whether the microphone picks you up, how you sound to others, and that audio plays from the right speaker. Nothing is uploaded, and the test works the same way Zoom, Teams and Google Meet access your devices.

Test your camera and microphoneThe video and audio stay on this device. Nothing is recorded or sent unless you record a clip, which is kept in this tab only.

Before an important call

  • Light your face from the front. A window behind you turns the camera's exposure down and leaves you in silhouette.
  • Frame at eye level, with your eyes about a third of the way down the picture.
  • Record a five-second clip and play it back. Echo means the room is too bare; a soft furnishing or headphones fix it.
  • Below 24 fps the camera is struggling for light. More light raises the frame rate more than any setting does.

Questions

Why is my webcam not working?

The three common causes are blocked browser permission, another application using the camera, and the camera being disabled in system privacy settings. The error shown after starting the test names which one applies and how to fix it.

How do I check my microphone?

Start the test and speak. The level meter moves with your voice, and the Microphone check turns green once input is detected. Record a five-second clip to hear exactly how you sound.

Is the video recorded or uploaded?

No. The camera and microphone feed is shown on this page only. The optional five-second clip stays in this browser tab and disappears when you close it.

Why does the frame rate show lower than 30 fps?

Most webcams lower their frame rate automatically in dim light, to collect more light per frame. Add light in front of you and the rate usually rises.

Why does my image look mirrored?

The preview is mirrored by default because that matches a mirror and feels natural. Other people on a call see the unmirrored image. Turn off Mirror preview to see what they see.
