Getting the size down

Resolution has the largest effect. A 4K phone video at 1080p is roughly a quarter of the size, and still sharp on any laptop. 720p suits email, chat apps and most social posts.

Balanced quality keeps detail on faces and text while removing what the eye does not register. Use Smallest for screen recordings and talking heads, where little changes between frames.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is decoded and re-encoded in your browser using WebCodecs, the same hardware encoder your device uses for video calls. It never leaves your computer.

How much smaller will the video be?

Typically 50–90% smaller for phone footage, depending on resolution and quality. Videos that were already compressed for the web shrink less; the tool reports when the original was already efficient.

Which browsers are supported?

Current Chrome, Edge and Safari on desktop and mobile, and Firefox 130 or later. Older browsers lack the video encoder this tool relies on.

Can I compress iPhone videos?

Yes. iPhone videos are usually HEVC. Safari and Chrome on Apple devices decode HEVC; on Windows, Chrome and Edge decode it when the system has HEVC support. The output is H.264, which plays everywhere.

Is there a file size limit or watermark?

No watermark. Size is limited only by your device's memory; files up to a few gigabytes work on a typical laptop.
