Your voice comes from the microphone and is recorded whenever the Microphone switch is on. The browser asks for permission the first time.
System audio — a video's soundtrack, a call — is captured through the browser’s sharing dialog. In Chrome and Edge, tick “Share tab audio” or “Share system audio” there. Sharing a single tab captures that tab’s sound on every operating system; sharing the whole screen captures system sound on Windows and ChromeOS only.
When both are on, the two are mixed into one audio track, so the video plays back correctly in every player.
Questions
Is the recording uploaded?
No. The browser records the video into memory on your device, and the download saves it straight to disk. Nothing is sent to a server, so confidential screens stay private.
Is there a time limit or watermark?
Neither. Recording length is limited only by your device's memory — roughly an hour at High quality on a typical laptop.
Which file format is the video?
MP4 in browsers that can record it, including current Chrome, Edge and Safari, and WebM in Firefox. MP4 plays everywhere; WebM plays in every browser and can be converted to MP4 for editing software that does not open it.
Can I record my screen on a phone?
Not from a website: iOS and Android do not let web pages capture the screen. Use the built-in Screen Recording control in the phone's quick settings instead.
Why is there no sound from the video I recorded?
System audio must be shared in the browser's dialog. Start again with System and tab audio switched on, and tick the share-audio checkbox before choosing what to share.
