How to get recommended by ChatGPT
ChatGPT names brands from what it learned in training and from pages it retrieves when it searches the web. To be recommended, make sure its crawlers can reach you, that the facts about your brand are current in the sources it already cites, and that your own pages answer buyer questions directly enough to be quoted.

First, let it reach you
OpenAI runs three separate agents and they do different jobs. Blocking the wrong one quietly removes you from answers.
- GPTBot collects pages that may inform future model training.
- OAI-SearchBot builds the search index ChatGPT draws on when it searches — this is the one that decides whether you can be retrieved and cited today.
- ChatGPT-User fetches a page live, during a conversation, when someone asks about it.
Then fix what it already believes
Assistants repeat what they can retrieve. If your pricing changed after a widely-cited source was written, the old number keeps appearing until something it trusts says otherwise.
There is no correction form, and that is the point people miss. What works is making the current fact easy to retrieve: state it plainly on your own site, and get it into the third-party sources the engine already cites for your category.
Then earn the citations that decide your category
Look at which sources ChatGPT actually links when it answers questions in your market. In most categories a small group dominates, and being absent from that group is why a brand goes unnamed despite ranking well.
The route in depends on the source. Review sites reward a complete, claimed profile with recent reviews. Listicles respond to outreach. Community threads reward genuine participation rather than posting.
What does not work
Publishing more content for its own sake rarely moves anything, because the bottleneck is usually retrieval rather than volume. Neither does keyword stuffing, which was already ineffective and is more so against a model summarising meaning.
There is also no way to pay for placement in an organic answer. Anything sold as guaranteed inclusion is not describing how these systems work.
Questions
Does ChatGPT cite its sources?
It links the pages it used whenever it searches the web for an answer. Those links are the clearest available signal of which sources are shaping the recommendation in your category.
How often do ChatGPT's answers change?
Answers are generated fresh each time and are not deterministic, so two identical questions can name different brands. That is why a single check tells you little and a scheduled scan across many runs tells you a lot.
Should I block GPTBot?
That is a business decision about training, and it is separate from retrieval. Blocking GPTBot while allowing OAI-SearchBot keeps you eligible to be cited in answers while opting out of training collection.
